The One With Why I’m Actually NOT That Excited for The Cursed Child

Well, it’s here. It’s finally here. The book EVERYONE has been waiting for is finally here. The Cursed Child releases tomorrow and there is a heck of a hullabaloo around it. I mean, a NEW J.K. ROWLING BOOK? SHE. IS. QUEEN! And this is basically every Harry Potter fans dream come true. Right?

Um… *hides in bunker from rabid fans*

Even though I’m a HUGE HP fan, I’m not all that excited.  JUST LET ME EXPLAIN, OKAY?!

Why I’m not all that excited about The Cursed Child

  • It’s a script…..
I’m sorry, but am I the only one who doesn’t want to read a script? Maybe if it was a novel I’d be more excited, but I don’t really care to read a play script. I feel like it will be awkward and choppy. No. Just, no. I wouldn’t mind seeing it in the play, considering that’s how it is MEANT to be seen, but I don’t want to read it. In fact, I feel like they only did is BECAUSE they knew it’d sell…..
  • The plot sounds…..meh.
#SorryNOTSorry, but the plot just really doesn’t sound that interesting (and Ashley at NoseGraze who has seen the play agrees that while the effects were awesome, the story not so much). I mean, I’m somewhat intrigued because of the whole Albus “feeling the weight of a legacy” and I think if it focused SOLELY on the next generation, I’d be intrigued. But I don’t really care about Harry’s mid-life slump . I want to remember him as he was and the few official snippets we know from Rowling herself. This leads me to….
  • I’m happy where the series ended….
Like all HP fans, I always loved learning more about the HP world, but I’m also VERY satisfied with how the series ended. I think it wrapped up beautifully and wholly. While I always enjoyed the little snippets of canon that Rowling revealed (who married who, who did what, etc.), I never really wanted a book after the series ended. See, Harry’s story has ended. I don’t want to learn more about his necessarily. DON’T RUIN HIS STORY OKAY? But learning about others in the HP world? Yes.
  • I wanted Prequels, not Sequels….
If I wanted any more books from the HP world, it was prequels about the Marauders or The Order. WHERE ARE MY BOOKS ABOUT THE MARAUDERS DANGIT?!?! IS THIS TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR?!?!

But seriously, though….However, this is why I’m excited about Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them. It’s from the HP world, but not about Harry Potter himself. It won’t necessarily affect my view of HP.

Final thoughts

Will I read it? I honestly don’t know. I like remaining in blissful ignorance. Maybe if people start ranting and raving about it, I’ll check it out. But honestly? I’d prefer to see the play if anything.

However, I am a #HPFan4Lyfe and a rabid one at that, so I’m sure that I’ll end up buying the book even if I don’t read it.

But I’m still waiting on my Marauders prequel dangit.

How about you? I can’t be the only one who isn’t that excited about the Cursed Child? I KNOW YOU’RE OUT THERE! WE MUST BAND TOGETHER FOR PROTECTION! I have food…..
